Iain has spent his executive career at the highest levels within the aerospace sector, initially British Aerospace and then as Managing Director of Airbus UK.
In 2007 he was appointed the first Chief Executive of Innovate UK and was responsible for its successful development into the UK Governments innovation organisation.
Iain was appointed to the position of Professor and Director of Aerospace at Cranfield University in 2015 and additionally holds a number of NED positions. He was awarded CBE in 2014 for his services towards innovation and is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
In 2023 Iain was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours, and appointed Knight Batchelor for services to the aerospace industry.
Iain is also a member of the UK Jet Zero Council.
